Hartford utility parent Eversource Energy will sell 12 of its New Hampshire power plants, as part of an agreement with officials from the Granite State to resolve outstanding cases before regulators.
Eversource, which is dually headquartered in Boston and Hartford, will sell nine hydroelectric plans and three fossil fuel plans. The company estimates New Hampshire ratepayers will save $300 million for not having to pay for the continual operation and maintenance of the plants, including upgrades to meet new federal air emissions standards.
The sale resolves three cases before New Hampshire energy regulators dealing with Eversource’s purchase of a scrubber for one of the plants and the issue of the utility company owning power plants and selling to ratepayers.
All potential buyers must agree to keep the plants operating for 18 months and honor all existing collective bargaining agreements. For more information…
